Like many fast-growing companies, space is extremely tight for one of the world’s leading car care suppliers, however, with a relatively narrow storage facility and a mixture of normal and tall pallet loads, pallet racking was never going to be the solution.

After discussing the products and the movement of goods, Thistle proposed a warehouse mezzanine floor which would allow the taller 2-metre pallets to be stored safely on the mezzanine with the shorter pallets being stacked two high underneath.

The 185 square metre mezzanine measuring 27m in length by 7.6m wide was designed to provide a 3-metre clear height to the ground floor level and a 2-metre height to the upper level.

With the mezzanine assuming 100% of the total floor area, Thistle Systems specified a heavy-duty open steel deck which not only allows the light through but also reflects to create a bright space.

Two steel staircases were installed to provide the required level of access/escape routes as well as a 2 metre tall pallet gate to allow safe handling of the pallets.
