A global manufacturing company is now enjoying additional production space after managing to free up massive amounts of floor space within their Scottish facility thanks to Thistle Systems.
The company had been stacking large crates measuring 2600mm long by 2400mm wide and 1700mm in height inside the factory. However, they were running out of space.
Thistle Systems developed an external cantilever racking solution which could accommodate 42 of the large crates – representing over 445 cubic metres of space.
The 2500mm cantilever arms provided a load capacity of 250kg – these were specifically designed to suit the products being stored and not over specified to incur additional costs. Also, each cantilever arm featured cross beams to enable smaller crates and boxes to be stored in the future. Thistle also designed a structure to provide essential shelter to the products with cladding to the end panels and an angled roof with associated drainage works to disperse the rainwater.
Thistle Systems’ Project Manager, Alan Scott, explained, “This is a great example of a client understanding the true opportunity cost of storing products inefficiently. With the products packed to withstand external conditions, they were able to store them externally and dramatically increase the production space within their facility.”
He continued, “We designed and installed a solution which delivered the required capacity as well as future proofing the system with cross beams to be capable of accommodating other smaller products.”
