Thistle Systems has enabled a manufacturer of artisan products to transform its warehouse by replacing its existing mezzanine floor with industrial shelving – this has enabled them to increase the capacity by 30% but reduce picking times by well over 50%.
Like many companies which are experiencing rapid growth, the client has installed a mezzanine floor to provide what it thought would be the additional floorspace it needed to locate shelving.
However, as the business continued to grow, the mezzanine did not provide the capacity required and was starting to cause issues with the time it was taking to load the system and pick items ready for despatch.
After discussing the challenges being faced, Thistle Systems used its Max the Cube approach to assess the available alternatives and then designed, supplied and installed a narrow aisle longspan shelving solution to work with a man up forklift truck.
Thistle Systems’ Project Manager, Alan Scott, explained, “The system provided 605 linear metres of storage via 7 beam levels with each shelf, 800mm deep by 2700mm in length.”
He continued, “The system enabled the client to capitalise on the height available in the warehouse whilst providing 100% accessibility to all products.”
