Thistle Systems has enabled one of the world’s leading Medical Device manufacturers to dramatically increase their storage capacity using their Max the Cube approach. This was achieved by installing a 550sq metre mezzanine floor above a fully operational clean room.
The mezzanine floor solution was one of the largest of its kind that Thistle has been involved in, and was part of an optimisation process for the client who was seeing the closure of one of its other UK warehouses.
The size and nature of the mezzanine floor required several building warrant issues to be complied with, including stringent fire safety standards between the ground floor and the new mezzanine structure.
With the clean room being fully operational throughout the project, Thistle carried out the installation of the full main steelwork structure over a long weekend, with several teams working round the clock to minimise the disruption to operations.
Whilst the mezzanine was designed purely for additional storage and featured a pallet safety gate, in order to comply with building regulations, Thistle also created a new fire exit directly from the mezzanine level which featured an external steel staircase, fire door to the existing building structure and associated civil works.
As part of its commitment to reducing operational costs for the client, Thistle also installed LED lighting to the mezzanine floor level. Click here to find out more about mezzanine costs
