Thistle Systems has enabled a food and drink company to accommodate its rapid growth by designing and installing a mezzanine floor within the production space to create office space for up to 12 employees with secure storage space below.

Office Mezzanine

The company was literally bursting at the seams with a growing team already working in a small office in the production area with no additional floor space available.

However, by using the mezzanine floor to capitalise on the available height, the company was able to create almost 60 square metres of office space above a key production control area.

Thistle Systems used all of the experience and expertise in the manufacturing and engineering industry to design the mezzanine to meet the stringent building regulations and health and safety standards which apply in a high-risk area such as a production area.

This included the design and installation of an external fire escape which doubles as the main entrance to the new office space together with new external windows to bring natural light into the offices.

The office area within the mezzanine provides workspace for 10 employees plus a separate management office with windows overlooking the production area to double as a meeting room.

On the ground floor of the mezzanine, Thistle installed a locker room as well as 2 lockable cages, one of which includes a workbench.

Thistle’s Interiors Project Manager, Donny Mclean, commented, “With a project like this one, our experience and knowledge of the industry really is key.”

He continued, “When carrying out building works within a high risk area, ensuring the correct building regulations and health and safety standards are met is vital to the success of the project. Not only were we able to overcome the issue of ensuring the important electrical works were dealt with correctly and safely, we were able to create a fantastic office area which fully maximised the limited space we had.”
