Thistle Systems have enabled one of the world’s leading suppliers to the oil and gas industry to increase the size and security measures in a key storage facility in Aberdeen by developing a bespoke storage solution with a custom designed shelving solution.

The client was storing high value components within a traditional 6 metres x 4 metres secure mesh cage, however they were looking to enhance the facility to meet the growing demand in the sector.

To achieve the required capacity, Thistle proposed a solution which increased the area to 10 metres x 4 metres using a single skin steel partitioning system to provide the increased security required to store the additional volume (and value) of high value components.

The new secure storage facility also featured a 3m high suspended ceiling with lighting to create an enclosed facility, complete with single and a double door to provide the required access for loading and picking components.

To maximise capacity and improve the safe storage of the components, Thistle developed a bespoke shelving solution which was sized to accommodate 200 boxes perfectly. Lockable doors were also installed to three of the shelving units to provide additional security measures for key products.

The solution also featured high density drawer systems to store small parts with a total of 216 dividers per drawer unit to bring organisation and structure to the system whilst dramatically increasing capacity.

With the project falling under the latest CDM regulations, Thistle Systems adopted the roles of both Principal Designer, having carried out the full design package and Principal Contractor, taking responsibility for the installation and project delivery.

The end result was a highly efficient and effective storage solution which increase the storage capacity by over 150%.
