Directives from the HSE recommend that IBCs should not be stored more than two high, and indeed some companies are not willing to risk any damage to IBCs and choose not to stack.
As a result, IBCs often take over a large floor space in multiple areas in facilities across the UK.
Thistle Systems was asked to develop a solution by a Food and Drink company using their MaxiCube IBC Racking, a dynamic high-density storage solution that can store up to six IBCs deep on their gravity-fed carts.
Working in a floor area of just 55 square metres, Thistle Systems designed and installed a solution that was four IBCs high to store a total of 140 IBCs.
The pioneering cart technology is designed to ensure the IBCs remain level at all times whilst the rails and rollers allow gravity to take its natural effect – providing the perfect storage solution.
Thistle also worked closely with the client’s HSE team to provide galvanised steel drip trays below every lane capable of storing 1000 litres of liquid. This enables any leakages to be quickly identified and allows preventative action to be taken to avoid further losses.
The system is designed to be flexible to store IBCs and pallets – even in the same lane.
