Drive In Racking Transforms Capacity

Thistle Systems has enabled one of Scotland’s leading food and drink companies to maximise the available height in their warehouse facilities and transform its capacity and efficiency by installing a combination of their Maxi Cube Drive-In Racking and Maxi Cube APR Racking.

The company had been block stacking their finished goods, however, the fragile nature of their packaging materials prevented pallets being stored on top of each other and so were taking up valuable floor space – especially with the busy festive season approaching.

After discussing the products being stored and the available space, Thistle Systems developed a range of proposals including its shuttle racking solution, push back racking and drive-in racking, together with the total capacity and operational benefits each solution could deliver together with the associated budget costs.

The final project saw Thistle Systems design, supply and install its Maxi Cube Drive-In Racking solution which was 12 lanes wide by 3 pallets high and up to 7 Euro pallets deep to provide a total capacity of 252 pallets in just 256 square metres – a 200% increase in capacity on their previous approach.

Thistle also designed a run of its Maxi Cube Advanced Engineered APR racking to optimise the beam heights to suit the products being stored and to maximise the available height with a combination of 6 pallets high and 8 pallets high. With 4 bays wide and 2 pallets per bay, the client was able to create 56 pallets positions for finished goods.
