Thistle Systems has helped a civil engineering contractor to merge two depots into a new location by creating a new storage solution to maximise capacity, increase accessibility and improve health and safety.
The contractor had previously stacked the various road signs they used on a day to day basis and used timber supports to store the gas pipes.
However, with a dramatic increase in signs and pipes being stored, Thistle Systems was asked to develop a solution which would make the merger possible.
After assessing the products being stored and discussing the requirements with the clients, Thistle designed a bespoke stillage to fit the exact size of the road signs and stands which could be stacked on top of each other using a fork lift truck.
Enclosed stillages were also developed to provide additional protection for individual signs with a drip hole being incorporated to prevent the collection of water and the facility to mount a sample sign for easy identification.
For the large gas pipes which were more of a challenge; between the sheer size and requirement to load/unload with a forklift; Thistle developed a frame system with a back support to enable the rolled pipes to be stored vertically, as well as a narrow ground structure with removable steel posts to separate the pipes.
Both stillages and the pipe frame solution were manufactured using galvanised steel to ensure they could withstand the elements.
