Ultra-High Density Storage Solution for Pharmaceuticals Sector

One of Scotland’s leading pharmaceutical contract manufacturing organisations has transformed its storage capacity thanks to Thistle Systems expertise in designing ultra-high-density storage solutions for the pharma sector.

The client was looking for a solution to assist with a major new project that was part of the COVID vaccination programme and needed to store a large volume of glass vials and packaging materials in the smallest floor space possible.

Thistle Systems’ expert design team used their Max the Cube approach to understand the number of SKUs, the sizes of the products being stored and the throughput of the products to develop the optimum storage solution.

The Ultra High-Density Mobile Storage was custom-designed to feature two sizes of shelves to suit the box types, and the shelving heights were optimised to suit the anticipated quantity of each SKU. Thistle also increased shelving length from the standard 1000mm to 1300mm to maximise space utilisation.

The finished solution delivered a total storage capacity of 182 linear metres in just over 24 square metres of floor space – allowing the client to store 420 boxes of the packaging materials, which was significantly more than they expected.
